What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
At SKINREJUVENATIONPRP we specialise in new cutting edge regenerative procedures and go above and beyond others. PRP is well known for its rejuvenating properties. The application of PRP to the face can help to bring back a youthful glow to the face, improve fine lines and wrinkles and even help with pigmentation and scarring.
This results in increased collagen and elastin regeneration and provides more of a youthful glow. As we age, alongside changes in the skin due to reduced collagen and elastin, there is a reduction in facial volume. By combining fat with PRP we are able to replace this volume in a similar fashion to dermal fillers. The result is that hollowed out areas are filled up and volume can be restored. The advantage of fat over fillers is that it is completely natural and much longer lasting with results being maintained for years as opposed to just a few months.
What is PRP and how does it help the skin?
Platelet Rich Plasma – commonly referred to as PRP – is a natural cell based treatment for facial rejuvenation and can help slow down the ageing process.
Platelets are specific cells found in the blood that are responsible for clotting and initiating inflammation and repair processes within the body. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a process whereby the platelets are removed from your blood and purified into a liquid form – ‘plasma’ – with a concentration at least 4-5 times higher than in blood.
Platelets have been shown to play an important role in wound healing. When activated they trigger the release and production of multiple chemicals that ultimately result in the stimulation of fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are cells that produce collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin form the main building blocks of the skin. Increased collagen and elastin results in improved skin health. Platelet rich plasma reinvigorates the skin and this can have dramatic effects, especially when you consider skin becomes inactive by the age of 30.
HOW IS PRP PERFORMED
The process of PRP involves drawing a small sample of your own blood, very similar to the process of a blood test. Your blood will then be placed in a highly specialise system, known as a centrifuge which separates the platelet rich plasma from other blood components. During this time, we will gently cleanse and clean the area of treatment and apply topical numbing cream. After the blood is properly processed and separated, we will then re-inject this back into the area of treatment.
Platelets are cells found in the human blood. when activated, they stimulate the generation of growth factors that can stimulate the wound healing process.
Blood is taken from the patient
The blood is then placed into a specialised centrifuge, which helps seperate the blood to form your own Platelet rich plasma serum.
The PRP separated by the centrifuge is then taken out and applied with topically or injected into the skin, stimulate new collagen and elastin.
NOT ALL PRP IS THE SAME - SO HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?
PRP has over 1.1 million active growth factors and 9 billion bioactive regenerative platelets. This is over 7 times the normal level that naturally exists in blood and the concentration needed to provide desired clinical outcomes. To achieve this, at our clinic we use PurePRP by EMCYTE which delivers 7-10 billion platelets per treatment. PurePRP provides a powerful concentration of deliverable regenerative cells.
